Job Introduction
Focus Birmingham is a leading local charity dedicated to supporting individuals with complex needs and supporting those with sight loss. We are currently seeking a dedicated and friendly driver to join our Central resources department. This is a permanent position to be worked every Thursday and Friday, for 10 hours a week, shifts will be between the hours of 7.00am to 5.30pm

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A full, current driving license with no more than 6 points
  • D1 entitlement or PCV license (if test passed after January 1997)
  • Good driving standards previous minibus experience is advantageous
  • Friendly, approachable attitude and understanding of the needs of adults with disabilities

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • MIDAS driver accreditation
  • Advanced driving training (ROSPA/IAM)
  • ROSPA defensive driving training
  • Experience with minibus tail life use and clamping
  • Experience working with individuals with visual impairments and other complex needs
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a driver you will play a crucial role in transporting adults with complex needs to and from our day centre. Your primary focus will be on safety and providing excellent customer service. This role requires a caring and helpful attitude, ensuring all service users feel comfortable and reassured.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Always maintain a professional and welcoming demeanour
  • Safely transport service users according to a scheduled transport
  • Conduct routine vehicle checks to ensure cleanliness and safety, reporting any issues to the Fleet Coordinator
  • Ensure all safety equipment (First Aid boxes, PPE, infection control boxes, rescue medication, fire safety equipment) is in good condition and report any restocking needs
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly vehicle checks and communicate findings to the Fleet Coordinator
  • Liaise with staff and relatives to exchange key information about service users
  • Assist service users including those in wheelchairs, with entering and exiting the vehicle safely.
  • Participate in all necessary training, including mandatory e-learning and adherence to Focus Birmingham policies and procedures.
