REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 45 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires strong visual abilities, including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Work is primarily performed outdoors in and around vehicles.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license with at least 36 months of uninterrupted driving history, free of suspensions or gaps.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Physical screening is required for safety-sensitive positions.
  • Participation in random drug testing is required as part of our Drug-Free Workplace policy.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record that meets company standards; records are monitored regularly in accordance with state laws.
  • Must be eligible to obtain an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license if required by the position and location.
  • U.S. applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in driver instruction or a related transportation/trainer/leadership role.
  • Strong communication and teaching skills.

At the core of our team is a strong culture of safety, professionalism, and personal responsibility, and all team members are expected to uphold these standards of conduct. Driving instructors play a critical role in this environment by safely training new vehicle operators, helping them build the foundational skills required to become capable autonomous drivers. Instructors typically train for 6–8 hours per day, tailoring their approach to meet different learning styles while working collaboratively to ensure consistency across the training program.
Instructors must be able to deliver clear, professional feedback while maintaining the team’s high standards of accountability and conduct. Evaluating a new operator’s driving requires a high level of professionalism and responsibility, especially when providing critique. Above all, safety is our number one priority, and instructors are expected to reinforce and model this commitment in every aspect of their role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train and mentor new vehicle operators across classroom, in-depot, and in-vehicle environments.
  • Maintain Transdev’s highest safety standards at all times.
  • Adapt training to a variety of learning styles and monitor trainee performance with professionalism.
  • Serve as a technology liaison, communicating effectively with engineers, management, and the public.
  • Maintain situational awareness, understand evolving autonomous vehicle technologies, and adjust training as needed.
  • Help develop and standardize training materials and participate in continuous program improvement.
  • Monitor software updates and document changes across different versions.
  • Support onboarding and contribute to a positive learning environment.
  • Be available for varied shifts (including nights and weekends) and up to 30% travel.
