Description Company Overview: At Great Lakes Petroleum, we are a leading fuel distribution company delivering gasoline, diesel, and specialty fuels across the United States. With a large fleet of HAZMAT-certified drivers and a commitment to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, we are looking for an experienced Driver Trainer to help maintain and elevate the standards of our driver team. Position Summary: The Driver Trainer is responsible for onboarding, training, evaluating, and mentoring fuel delivery drivers to ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety standards. This role plays a critical part in improving fleet safety, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction through hands-on instruction and performance coaching. Key Responsibilities: Training & Onboarding Conduct new driver orientation, including safety procedures, HAZMAT handling, company policies, and equipment operation Train drivers on the proper use of fuel delivery equipment. Provide instruction on company technology: ELD systems Samsara and wireless tank monitoring (SmartLogix) Safety & Compliance Ensure driver compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and EPA regulations Deliver training on spill prevention, PPE usage, fire safety, and safe fueling practices Conduct remedial training for drivers involved in incidents, near misses, or violations Evaluation & Monitoring Ride along with drivers to assess performance, safety awareness, and customer service Maintain detailed records of driver training, certifications, and evaluations Identify unsafe driving habits or fuel handling issues and correct them through targeted coaching Operations Support Assist dispatch and fleet teams in driver scheduling, route familiarization, and trip planning as needed Help ensure driver qualifications (HAZMAT, TWIC, CDL) are up to date and maintained Collaborate with the maintenance department to report and track vehicle-related safety concerns Team Development Serve as a mentor and role model to drivers, promoting a culture of professionalism and accountability Provide feedback to management on driver performance, morale, and improvement needs Work Environment: Field-based with regular time in terminals, truck yards, and customer delivery sites Occasional lifting, climbing on tankers, or working outdoors in variable conditions Compensation and Benefits We offer a full benefits package including, health, dental, vision, and more. Requirements Qualifications: CDL Class A or B with HAZMAT & Tanker endorsements (required) 5+ years of fuel delivery or petroleum transportation experience Previous experience in training or driver supervision (preferred) Strong knowledge of DOT, HOS, and HAZMAT transportation regulations Ability to coach and communicate effectively with drivers of all experience levels Strong organizational and documentation skills Willingness to travel as needed. This role requires travel approximately 30% of the time. Preferred Certifications (not required): Certified Driver Trainer (Smith System or equivalent) OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification Defensive Driving Instructor Certification
