JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Commercial Truck Driver Trainer to join our team in Langley, BC. The successful candidate will be responsible for training and mentoring new and existing commercial drivers, ensuring they meet all provincial and federal transportation safety standards. This role combines hands-on driving instruction with classroom-based training, emphasizing safety, compliance, and professional driving techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Class 1 Commercial Driver’s License with a clean abstract.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent commercial driving experience.
  • Previous experience with local and highway, all season, and mountain driving.
  • Previous experience as a trainer or driving instructor is an asset.
  • Knowledge of MELT curriculum and commercial driver training regulations in BC and AB.
  • Strong communication, instructional, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to assess learner progress and adapt training methods accordingly.
  • Criminal record check and drug/alcohol testing required.
  • Certification in adult education or driver training (e.g., ICBC recognized instructor certification) is an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Provide in-class, in-yard, and in-cab training to new and existing Class 1 drivers.
  • Deliver training programs that comply with MELT (Mandatory Entry-Level Training) standards in BC.
  • Conduct road evaluations and assessments of driving skills and safety practices.
  • Teach drivers how to properly inspect, maintain, and operate commercial vehicles.
  • Instruct on safety protocols, defensive driving, hours of service, logbook usage, and cargo securement.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to improve driver performance.
  • Maintain accurate training records and progress reports.
  • Stay updated with industry regulations, including National Safety Code (NSC), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and WorkSafeBC standards.
  • Support the development and updating of training materials and manuals.
