Description Job Title: Dross Handler Classification: Hourly (Non-exempt) Location: Rosemount, MN Working Schedule: Full-time Position Overview: The Dross Handler supports Operations by safely and efficiently transporting scrap and dross to and from the furnace. Additionally, ensure that established handling and disposal procedures are followed. Compensation and Benefits: The expected starting wage for this position is between $22.00-$25.00/hr. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility. Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm EGA Spectro Alloys provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes: Paid Time Off Paid Holidays – Plus your birthday 401(k) with company match Annual clothing allowance Comprehensive Medical Plan Free Dental and Vision Health Savings Account (HSA) Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Collaborate with the Production Foreman and/or Traffic Assistant or Manager to schedule and set-up charge bins, weigh scrap and stage all metal to be charged to the furnaces. Receive and handle nonferrous materials, ensuring proper storage and organization. Conduct quality inspections and assays on aluminum alloys to ensure they meet specified standards. Identify and address any defects or discrepancies in the materials. Inspect all metal to be charged to the furnaces for wet and/or corroded scrap. Warn others, as appropriate, of dangerous scrap. Coordinating with the Quality Team the sampling of molten metal, and addition of alloy elements in accordance to defined procedures. Coordinating with the Furnace Operator(s) the skimming of dross. Follow all procedures for proper storage and disposal of furnace dross. Ensure that all dross bins are properly maintained, are dry (not moved in the snow or rain) and stored behind the baseline. Maintain metal charges and dross weights’ paperwork and documentation as required. Properly cool dross before being dumped and/or broken up. If dumped when hot ensure the proper amount of flux is applied. Keep work area clean and free from scrap and dross. Ensure that all charging and skimming tools are clean, preheated and properly maintained. Ensure that all Rolling Equipment used is working properly (inspected and preventive and planned maintenance). Follow safe practices when loading trailers to ensure even weight distribution. Assist Furnace Operator(s) with troubleshooting or emergencies that occur at the furnace or in the pit. Assist Maintenance, if necessary, to ensure minimal production downtime. Education/Experience/Skills: Required: Minimum 3 years’ work experience in an industrial manufacturing plant Basic Computer skills Preferred: High School Diploma Bi-lingual English/Spanish The following training will be provided by Spectro Alloys. Candidates already trained in these areas will receive preference: Safety and Operational training. (PPE, Molten Metal Handling, Casting, etc.) Hazwoper, Smoke House Other Spectro Alloys specific Rolling Equipment and Process Certifications Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heavy equipment and machinery. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required by production needs. Ability to work in various temperature environments as needed in manufacturing settings. Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
