Dry Chem Shop Laborer United Fire is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Dry Chem Shop Laborer. The Shop Laborer is primarily responsible for servicing fire extinguishers according to manufacturer recommendations and per National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and codes. The right candidate will assist customers and field service technicians with inspections, testing and repair of fire extinguishers and system fire extinguishing cylinders. RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspection, testing, and repair of fire extinguishers and system fire extinguishing cylinders. Replace worn or damaged parts including tubing, hoses, nozzles, neck O-rings, check stems and O-rings. Fills extinguishers with correct type of material including but not limited to: halon, ABC/BC dry chemical, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, water, or patented solutions. Perform leak checks and clean fire extinguishers that are serviced. Assist route service personnel with field maintenance of fire extinguishers. Test low pressure extinguishers for conformity with standards and codes. Assists customers that require help locating or servicing products. Keep abreast of fire codes, regulations, and industry best practices related to firefighting standards. Complete all required documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain an organized and clean work area. Occasionally assist with building maintenance and repair as well as performing some regular janitorial duties. QUALIFICATIONS: Great attention to detail Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively. Ability to interact with shop software tracking system Excellent customer service skills. Ability to deal professionally with customers and team members. Excellent written and oral communication skills Understanding and adherence to safety protocols, PPE, and regulations. Able to work with minimal supervision. Requirements High school diploma Valid and clean driving record Pre-employment drug screening and background check required. Prior experience in a shop environment is a plus. Experience with hand tools. Able to regularly move and carry materials weighing up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and climb or balance on a ladder multiple times a day.
