Roehampton Gate School is a specialist secondary school dedicated to supporting students with a range of additional needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and other complex educational needs.
Putney Vale is a dedicated post 16-19 provision in a brand-new, purpose-designed building in Putney Vale. This provision will offer a fantastic range of opportunities, including academic and vocational qualifications, as well as post-16 courses, all complemented by enriching experiences like volunteering, enterprise projects, and preparation for adulthood.
Our Post-16 site in Putney Vale will focus on vocational training, life skills, and independence to prepare students for adulthood.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated DT (Design Technology) and Construction Teacher to deliver engaging, practical, and skills-based lessons that will help students develop hands-on abilities and prepare for future employment or independent living.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification, including FE experienced candidates
  • Experience teaching Design Technology, Construction, or related vocational subjects within a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) setting
  • Strong knowledge of practical skills training, including carpentry, joinery, basic electrical work, and other hands-on disciplines
  • Ability to create differentiated, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences tailored to students’ abilities
  • A strong understanding of health & safety regulations, risk assessments, and safe workshop practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external partners
  • Passion for supporting students with SEND, helping them gain confidence and independence

Responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver, and assess Design Technology and Construction lessons for students across KS3, KS4, and KS5, adapting content for individual needs and abilities.
  • Teach practical skills such as woodworking, carpentry, basic plumbing, electrical work, and other construction-related skills in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Support students in developing problem-solving, teamwork, and hands-on technical skills that can lead to future employment or vocational qualifications.
  • Ensure health and safety is a priority in all practical sessions, carrying out risk assessments and enforcing safe working practices.
  • Provide tailored learning opportunities for students with additional needs, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and vocational coaches to support students’ individual learning and EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets
  • Assess and track student progress, providing meaningful feedback and reporting to parents, carers, and senior leadership
  • Support students in achieving relevant qualifications, including BTEC, ASDAN, or other vocational qualifications in Construction or Design Technology
  • Promote independence, employability, and real-world applications of DT and construction skills to help students transition into adulthood
  • Liaise with external training providers, employers, and work experience coordinators to explore post-school pathways for students
