Job Purpose & Description The Ductile Iron (DI) Technician is responsible for ensuring the overall quality, integrity, and efficient production of ductile iron products and equipment. The hours for this position will be Monday-Thursday 6aqm-2:30pm and Friday from 5am-1pm. Key Responsibilities: Class-C Operator Quality Control – Receiving and Inspection Visually inspect all incoming castings for defects and ensure that each part meets specifications When possible, repair defects utilizing various grinders Maintain accurate grinding wheel inventory Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required production reports (i.e. work order, indirect labor, QC defect) Parts Coating (Tar Coating) Ensure coating material maintains proper temperature, viscosity, and depth Receive parts from QC or other DI Operations Load parts in the immersion basket or on hooks as required Utilize overhead crane to immerse parts and remove from tanks Other duties as assigned Class-B Operator Lateral 90/Lateral 90FxM Assembly and Packaging Maintain full knowledge and understanding of Lateral 90 fittings, as well as the differences in size and configuration Assemble required fittings Proficient in ability to correctly assemble coupling to Lateral 90 for FxM fittings Ensure correct quantity, package and labeling for Lateral 90’s Maintain accurate inventory of required materials Gasket Inspection Inspect all DI gaskets for defects Trim excess flashing according to specifications Saddle Assembly Clean, maintain, and properly store saddle gaskets Properly cure saddle Assemble cured saddles and gaskets according to specifications Ensure proper packaging and labeling of completed assemblies Other duties as assigned Class-A Operator Fitting Fabrication Recognize and identify all components of fabricated fittings Assemble fittings to sales order specifications Cement Lining Measure and blend concrete, sand, and Rhoplex liquid to proper consistency Apply cement to applicable fittings according to specifications Complete and verify documentation as required Manually unload trucks from foundries Assist in all 5S activities Other duties as assigned Job Requirements Education & Certificates: High School diploma or GED required Technical Skills & Experience: 1+ years experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly preferred Competencies Strong basic math skills Ability to read and comprehend work order instructions, specifications, correspondence and other memos Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with various tools (i.e. grinders, basic hand tools, compressors, gauges, etc.) Key Relationships Incumbent will communicate regularly with peers within department and cross-functional departments, as well as with supervisors and other plant leadership. Working Conditions Employee may be exposed to a Considerable level of hazards in the work environment, such as chemicals, commercial products, exposure to potential toxins, moving machinery, repetitive motion, excessive noise, powered industrial vehicle fork/reach/ bucket lift/other. May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels. Employee may be required to perform a Considerable level of specific tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, muscular action, body movements, working positions, posture changes, visual attentiveness). Employee will be required to wear protective eyewear, laboratory coat, appropriate gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety shoes, hard hat, and/or other. Employee will be working in a non-climate-controlled plant environment and may be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures (hot or cold), depending upon the weather conditions.
