About the Role
The Great National Hotel is currently recruiting an experienced Duty Manager to join our management team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated hospitality professional looking to take the next step in their career within a busy 4* hotel environment. As Duty Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the senior management team to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the hotel, delivering exceptional guest experiences while driving revenue, efficiency, and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operations, Food Service & Guest Experience
- Support the management team in the effective and efficient day-to-day operation of the hotel and its food and beverage outlets
- Oversee food service operations, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, functions, events, and group dining
- Ensure all food service areas are properly prepared, staffed, and maintained throughout each shift
- Work closely with the kitchen and food and beverage teams to ensure efficient service, effective communication, and consistently high food standards
- Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control, service times, and guest satisfaction
- Support effective stock control, waste reduction, cost management, and responsible use of hotel resources
- Champion service excellence and consistently high operating standards across all departments
- Ensure all guests are welcomed in a warm, professional, and courteous manner
- Handle guest enquiries, complaints, and feedback promptly, professionally, and with appropriate follow-up
- Monitor and respond to adverse guest comments and operational issues, taking corrective action where required
- Encourage guest feedback and use it to support continuous improvement
- Ensure full compliance with hotel SOPs, HACCP procedures, food safety regulations, allergen controls, health and safety requirements, and brand standards
- Conduct regular checks of food service, public areas, and guest-facing operations to ensure all required standards are maintained
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise daily operations across all service areas, ensuring appropriate staffing levels
- Work closely with Managers, and Department Heads.
- Support disciplinary procedures in conjunction with senior management
- Respond constructively to staff feedback and suggestions
- Promote a positive, motivated, and professional team culture
Financial & Commercial Responsibilities
- Maximise revenue through effective upselling and cross-selling
- Monitor and control costs, waste, and energy usage
- Ensure compliance with all cash handling, till, float, and accounting procedures
- Liaise with the Accounts Department regarding financial processes
- Operate effective control systems across the hotel
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and hotel policies
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the property
- Participate in and promote health & safety training, fire drills, and safety procedures
- Report all accidents, incidents, hazards, or damage immediately
Property & Standards
- Ensure all areas of the hotel are well maintained at all times
- Monitor the condition and correct use of equipment and furniture
- Maintain high standards of personal presentation and hygiene
- Ensure correct signage, advertising, music listings, and displays are in place
Flexibility
- Be flexible and cooperative to meet the operational needs of the business
- Assist in other departments as required, depending on business levels
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar Duty Manager or supervisory role within a busy 4* hotel
- Strong knowledge of hotel operations and the hospitality industry
- Good knokledge of food and beverage operations
- Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a management team
- Strong organisational skills with a hands-on, proactive approach
