Duty Manager - Convenience Retail
Salary: £30,000 - £32,000
Contract: Full Time (40 hours per week)
Hours: Includes weekends and bank holidays
Important Information
- Assessment Day: Wednesday 2nd September @ 10am - 1 hr Group activities
- Successful candidates may be invited to a second-stage face-to-face interview
- The first 9 weeks of training will take place at our Birmingham store, so candidates must be able to commute during this period
- At least one day off every weekend
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Duty Manager to support the day-to-day operation of a busy convenience store. Selling a broad range of ambient, fresh, frozen and food-to-go products, this role is ideal for a retail professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys leading teams to deliver excellent customer service and commercial results.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations
- Oversee the daily running of the store
- Manage replenishment of ambient, fresh and frozen stock
- Support hot food preparation and food-to-go operations
- Receive and process deliveries
- Complete stock rotation, date checks and waste control procedures
- Maintain high standards of availability, merchandising and store presentation
- Open and close the store as a key holder
- Ensure compliance with health & safety and food safety regulations
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate and develop store colleagues
- Create a positive and productive working environment
- Manage staff rotas to ensure effective store coverage
- Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching and feedback
- Handle employee relations matters professionally and fairly
- Support colleague development and engagement
Customer Service
- Deliver outstanding customer service through a knowledgeable and friendly team
- Resolve customer queries and complaints effectively
- Build strong relationships with customers and the local community
- Drive customer loyalty and maintain the store's reputation
Commercial Performance
- Support delivery of sales, profit and operational KPI targets
- Monitor waste, shrinkage and product availability
- Control operating costs, including wages and utilities
- Produce operational and financial reports as required
About You
You'll have:
- Previous retail management or supervisory experience, ideally within convenience, food retail or FMCG
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- A proactive, hands-on approach
- The ability to prioritise and perform in a fast-paced environment
- A strong focus on customer satisfaction
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and bank holidays
