The Historic Dockyard Chatham, the best preserved of all Georgian dockyards, is the world’s most complete dockyard of the Age of Sail. Today, The Historic Dockyard Chatham, is the leading example of a mixed-use heritage estate. A vitally significant historic estate delivering outstanding preservation, an award-winning independent museum, commercial estate, Higher Education campus, leading film location and residential community.
As a registered charity that employs over 140 staff and 300 volunteers, people are at the heart of our Dockyard community. Our culture strives for excellence across the board and our team are hugely passionate and engaged in all aspects of our work. From historic building preservation through the diverse re-use of our historic estate, to engaging the widest possible audiences in learning about the significance and history of the former Royal Dockyard; The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a workplace like no other.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Duty Manager to play a vital role in the daily operations of our unique heritage site. As part of our frontline team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring the safety and well-being of all visitors and staff. You will lead by example, overseeing the Visitor Experience Assistants and managing the smooth operation of our galleries and public areas, maintaining high standards in presentation, accessibility, and engagement across the site.
Working as part of a flexible and collaborative team, you will take on key responsibilities including rota coordination, briefings, incident reporting, and first responder duties, while also supporting corporate and public events, including film and TV location hire. This is a dynamic, visitor-focused role requiring excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. If you’re passionate about heritage, enjoy working with the public, and have a flair for operational management, we’d love to hear from you.
