Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Senior CloudOps Engineering Team Lead with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure to support secure, compliant, and resilient cloud operations for our restricted New Zealand Government agencies. This role requires strong knowledge of Azure governance, automation, and operational excellence, aligned with NZ Government standards such as NZISM and data sovereignty requirements. You will lead a team to deliver and optimize the Azure environment, ensuring high availability, cost efficiency, and compliance. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and driving CloudOps best practices to meet public sector security and performance expectations. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop a team to deliver world-class services to our customers. Operate and maintain Azure cloud environments for NZ Government workloads, ensuring compliance with NZISM and privacy regulations. Implement Azure governance frameworks, including Azure policy, RBAC, cost management, and tagging standards. Provide operational support, including monitoring, incident response, and proactive remediation using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Sentinel. Automate operational tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Bicep to improve efficiency and reduce risk. Enhance observability and alerting for mission-critical services to meet SLAs and compliance requirements. Drive root cause analysis and implement design improvements for reliability and security. Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning in line with NZ Government mandates. Collaborate with security teams to maintain Zero Trust principles and implement cloud-native security controls. Contribute to ongoing improvements, including CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices. Required Skills & Qualifications Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) and practical experience managing enterprise Azure environments. Progressing towards or has Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305). Strong understanding of NZ Government security and compliance frameworks (e.g., NZISM, Protective Security Requirements). Hands-on experience with Azure services: Virtual Machines, Networking, Storage, Azure Policy, Security Center, Sentinel. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, ARM templates) and automation scripting (PowerShell, Python). Experience with monitoring and incident management in Azure environments. Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with government stakeholders. Desirable Experience Azure DevOps for CI/CD and release management. Cost optimization strategies for public sector workloads. Hybrid cloud integration with on-premises systems.
