Description

JOIN NATIONWIDE’S MISSION TO DELIVER FAIRER BANKING SERVICES WHILST BUILDING CUTTING-EDGE CLOUD SOLUTIONS THAT DIRECTLY IMPACT MILLIONS OF MEMBERS ACROSS THE UK.

The credit and property risk services Nationwide provides are core to a broad range of critical customer journeys across our estate. At the core of this are our AWS cloud based hubs for both credit and property value decisioning that ensure our members and our customers can interact with us as they choose in a safe, secure and timely manner.
We’re on a journey to provide the best banking services for the UK, and as part of this, we are further developing our systems and streamlining the apps and services our members and colleagues use. Nationwide has always delivered great service in new ways: for example, we were one of the first UK financial services providers to provide online banking.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you’ll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you’ll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

ABOUT YOU

For the role of Cloud Engineer API, we are looking for a demonstrated track record of the end-to-end technical understanding, knowledge, and optimisation of an organisation’s technology platform or platforms in Financial Services, or other similar regulated sectors. That means we expect you to have skills and experience in the following:

  • Strong experience in developing APIs using .Net core / C# deployed via E2E automated CI/CD pipelines in an enterprise environment. (we use GitHub Enterprise, Cloudbees, GHAS and Harness)
  • Exposure to API and MicroServices development on platforms running on Kubernetes(EKS)
  • Exposure to serverless patterns and lambda development
  • Exposure to utilising Message brokers (Active MQ/Kafka) and asynchronous architecture development
  • Solid understanding of docker and containerisation for development
  • Monitoring design and build using Dynatrace and / or Elastic (ELK)
  • Test driven development (TDD) design patterns using XUNIT
  • Experienced in interacting with both relational databases and No SQL databases (we use Mongo ATLAS for our operational data store, along with S3)
  • Experience with API gateway, EKS, EC2, Glue, S3, Hashicorp Vault and Cloud networking AWS services, deployment using terraform IaaC would also be beneficial

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.

Responsibilities
