Job Description The Early Career Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist will support senior-level engineers and geologists in executing a variety of geotechnical projects within open-pit mining. This role requires a working knowledge of engineering and geology principles, and the ability to manager and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously. Typical project roles and responsibilities include: Field work, including geotechnical core logging, face mapping, downhole geophysical logging, and installation of instrumentation and monitoring equipment Preparation and analysis of analytical and numerical slope stability models Joint set and shear zone characterization and kinematic analysis Rock and soil materials characterization and laboratory test planning Evaluation and analysis of instrumentation and monitoring data General support of open-pit geotechnical projects of all types Qualifications BSc degree in engineering geology, geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, mining engineering, or a closely related discipline. Preferred, Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in geotechnical or geological engineering or engineering geology 0 - 5 years of experience that includes fieldwork Strong interest and technical background in mine geotechnics, rock mass characterization, kinematic analysis, slope stability modeling, field investigations, and instrumentation and monitoring Desire to build foundational field and analysis skills and be mentored by experienced professionals Desire to travel and ability to conduct field investigations in remote locations Working knowledge of geotechnical field investigation and instrumentation and monitoring methods Working knowledge of rock mass characterization and slope stability analysis methods Experience performing rock mass characterization, geotechnical core logging, technical proficiency in open pit mine planning and stability modeling software, and mine operations experience is preferred Additional Information Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise.
