Early Childhood Educator Level 3
Summary:
The ECE supports the CNC (Care for Newcomer Children) program by providing quality childcare to children from diverse backgrounds.

THIS IS AN INNOVATIVE CHILDCARE PROGRAM FOR NEWCOMER CHILDREN. THEREFORE WE DO NOT QUALIFY FOR WAGE TOP UP AS OUR HOURLY RATE IS HIGHER THAN THE BASE HOURLY RATE.

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and support both children and parents in accordance with ASSIST CNC philosophy.
  • ensuring the program meet the needs of the diverse community.
  • ensuring Provincial licensing regulations are abided by.
  • working within a child care team in planning and implementing and documenting programming.
  • communicating to parents regarding day to day delivery of the program activities and their child’s involvement.
  • Provide a nurturing, positive and supportive environment for all children
  • Assist in planning and implementing activities for toddlers and preschoolers to guide their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Providing high quality programming based in the interests and ages of the children in care.
  • Discuss progress/concerns of children with other staff members
  • Guide and assist children in learning proper eating, dressing and toileting habits.
  • Assisting in maintaining records like Daily Records, Attendance Forms, daily reports, and menu.
  • Communicate with other staff if supplies need to be replenished.
  • Document accidents/injuries and serious occurrences as needed.
  • Inspect CNC indoor and outdoor space for safety issues and seek corrective action according to procedures, including following rules and regulations regarding safety of children in attendance of the activities.
  • Attend staff meetings/workshops/professional development activities.
  • Be responsible for staff and program requirements or needs when coordinator is not available.
  • Warm up and distribute food brought in by parents. Prepare snacks.
  • Keep children portfolios updated.
  • Supervise room activities
  • Collaborate with Coordinator and other Childcare educators for family matters of siblings attending the daycare, activities planned in common and exchanging of materials.
  • Report to Supervisor and Program Manager for any concerns and ideas.

Specifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels with children, parents and co-workers.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems for all documentation, reporting, and classroom operations
  • Strong collaborator and team player
  • Ability to take the initiative in and out of the classroom
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • 1-3 years of experience working with children ages 19 months to 5 years.
  • Experience working with children age 6 to 12 will be an asset
  • First Aid and CPR Level A and Current Criminal Reference Check are required
  • Sensitivity to cultural, linguistic and religious diversity. Foreign language fluency.
  • Able to lift weights (max. 25 kg) and to actively participate in physical activities.
  • Ability to continuously bend, squat or move at a fast pace.
  • Food Safe certificate an asset.
