POSITION TITLE: Early Childhood Pre-3 Assistant Teacher
REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Education ProgramDirector
STATUS: Non Exempt,Full Time (Up to 40 hours per week)
SALARY: $22.00 TO $24.00 Per Hour

SUMMARY:

Provide a comfortable and secure environment for children to meet their emotional, social, intellectual, and physical needs. Organize and present materials that are age appropriate. Help refugee and immigrant children maintain their home language and culture while learning English and feel emotional and socially comfortable in a pre- school setting. Provide information to parents on childcare techniques as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ECE Initial Certificate
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare or early learning setting.
  • Must meet all required state and federal health and safety guidelines (CPR, First Aid, TB test, HIV, CPS Training, etc.).
  • Clear Portable Background Check
  • Current food handler’s permit.
  • Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lift at least 45 pounds.
  • Flexibility, reliability, and the ability to maintain a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Ability to push, pull, bend, reach, squat, stand and walk in a fast-paced environment. Able to lift a minimum of 45 pounds
  • Ability to work flexible hours occasionally

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual or bicultural in Vietnamese, Chinese, Amharic, Somali, Spanish, Arabic, or other languages.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Knowledge of HighScope, or similar approaches.

Responsibilities
  • Follow program policies and licensing requirements.
  • Support the Lead Teacher in conducting program screenings and assessments as needed (e.g., ASQ, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Learning Stories).
  • Assist in implementing classroom language plans and supporting children’s language development in both home and secondary languages.
  • Maintain positive and respectful interactions with children to foster a supportive social/emotional environment.
  • Engage with toddlers through developmentally appropriate activities in literacy, numeracy, sensory play, and gross/fine motor skill development.
  • Support both small and large group learning activities as guided by the Lead Teacher.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and culturally responsive learning environment for toddlers.
  • Assist with the setup, execution, and clean-up of daily learning activities.
  • Support and model routines based on the classroom schedule, including transitions and toileting.
  • Observe and report developmental milestones and concerns to the Lead Teacher.
  • Attend and participate in staff training, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Supervise and actively always engage with children, including during transitions, meals, and outdoor play; help ensure ratios are maintained.
  • Promote warm and welcoming relationships with parents and caregivers.
  • Assist with classroom documentation, organization, and material preparation.
  • Serve meals and snacks; sit and eat with children while modeling appropriate behavior and conversations.
  • Support volunteers and classroom guests with guidance from the Lead Teacher
  • Assume overall responsibilities of the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Other duties assigned by the Lead Teacher or Program Director.
