Description Founded in 1866, The Floating Hospital (TFH) is one of the last remaining charity hospitals in New York City. Our commitment is the same as it was 160 years ago: unrestricted healthcare to all who walk through our doors, regardless of identity, insurance status, or the ability to pay. We welcome individuals of all ages, from infants, school-age children (5+), youth and adults. The Floating Hospital is a Federally Qualified Health Center and the largest provider to homeless families living in family shelters and domestic violence safe houses throughout all five boroughs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Tends to the general and basic needs of children in the waiting rooms or near exam rooms while parent/guardian completes their appointment with their provider. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Engages children with age-appropriate fun activities. Monitors the children’s behavior. Models appropriate social behaviors. Maintains a safe environment. Ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care Ensures children are returned to the correct parent/guardian. Educate and engage children 0-5 that are visiting The Floating Hospital: This includes both waiting room engagement and small group classes throughout the day. Participation in our week-long overnight camp for teens at the end of August. Enter data daily and create monthly reports to show engagement numbers. Watch children while parents are receiving services from medical, dental or behavioral health departments. Assists with handing out donations in the waiting room as provided by the Director of Health Education. Attendance and participation in the annual Camp Rise Up program; specific duties will be assigned by Supervisor. Assist with children in the Health Education classroom as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Health Education. Requirements High School Diploma, and some College in related field is preferred. Prior experience babysitting/caring for children is required.
Responsibilities
The attendant is responsible for monitoring and engaging children in waiting areas and classrooms while parents receive medical or behavioral health services. They also assist with donations, maintain a safe environment, and participate in organizational programs like Camp Rise Up.
