USD 28.00 Hourly | Youth Program Instructor in 50 E Putnam Ave, Greenwich, CT 06807-2608, United States

EDUCATION/EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Option 1: Current center-based Child Development Associate Credential issued from the Council for Professional Recognition AND at least 1,080 hours of documented supervised experience working directly with children in a legally operating childcare center that serves children up to preschool.
Option 2: Twelve (12) credits in early childhood education or child development from a regionally accredited higher education institution AND at least 1,080 hours of documented supervised experience working directly with children in a legally operating childcare center that serves children up to preschool.
Option 3: A bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education or child development AND at least 360 hours of documented supervised experience working directly with children in a legally operating family child care home, child care center or group child care home that serves children up to preschool AND at least one semester of student teaching with children up to preschool.

  • Emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the program, ensuring that it aligns with state regulation and guidelines, as well as the YMCA mission and values.
  • Work collaboratively with Lead Teacher to plan developmentally appropriate and engaging lessons and activities.
  • Ensure the implementation of and adherence to program and YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Develop classroom centers and overall environment that respond to children’s interests and are coordinated with the ongoing curriculum.
  • Facilitate student assessments and program reporting.
  • Work with parents/guardians to promote understanding of the growth and development of their child.
  • Effectively communicate with parents/guardians, verbally and in written form, throughout the school year.
  • Encourage parent/guardian participation in special events, meetings, and in-class volunteer opportunities
  • Work as a supportive team member within the Early Childhood Learning Center and the YMCA Branch and supervise Assistant Teachers, Early Childhood Specialists, and Volunteers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, including, but not limited to, incident/accident/behavior reports, attendance sheets, sign-in/sign-out sheets, development/growth forms, documentation of eating and sleeping, parent surveys, etc.
  • Ensure that all Greenwich YMCA, Department of Health, and Department of Education (if applicable) guidelines are followed.
  • Actively participate in designated meetings, all training sessions, and special events.

While performing the duties of this job:

  • Employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • Employee may be require to be active/on feet for an extended amount of time during the work day (i.e. walking to the park or engaging children on the playground).
  • Employee must possess the ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, and/or crouching.
  • Employee possess the ability to move around a room and quickly react to safety issues (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).
  • Employee must have the ability to lift young children and objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • Demonstrate emotion regulation, with the ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).
  • The noise level in the work environment may vary depending on the activity and location
