POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Oversees the development and operations of various early learning, preschool, and child watch programs.
  • Supports the YMCA in its mission committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • Oversees and develops programs and activities for youth within our community.
  • Recruits, trains and supports assigned program staff and volunteers.
  • Develops, organizes and implements high-quality programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood or related field; candidates currently pursuing a degree will also be considered.
  • One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
  • Required trainings within 60 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/AED First Aid; Bloodborne Pathogens, New Employee Orientation
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the early learning/preschool & child watch programs for assigned locations. Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures programs operate within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Ensures that YMCA preschool-age child care program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful and developmental-appropriate programming; plans, organizes, and creates lesson plans that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes within the deadline set by the Director.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Organizes special events for the early learners & preschool program.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities.
  • Works with other leadership staff in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Follows all procedures and standards as established by the law or the YMCA; makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
  • Keeps records of the children’s progress, routines, and interests, and informs parents about the child’s development.
