Job Title: Apprentice Early Years Practitioner
Reports to: Room Leader / Deputy Manager / Nursery Manager
Responsible for: Supporting the care and education of children
Working Hours: Full Time (Apprenticeship)
Salary: Apprentice rate
Level: Entry-Level (Unqualified)
Job Purpose
To train and work as part of a professional nursery team, gaining the experience, knowledge and qualifications required to become a skilled Early Years Educator. The apprentice supports children’s learning and care needs while developing their own understanding of the EYFS, safeguarding, and effective early years practice.

Responsibility Areas & Duties

  • Learning Through Experience
  • Participate in planned learning, on-the-job training and mentoring as part of an apprenticeship programme.
  • Observe, reflect and respond to feedback to build knowledge and improve practice.
  • Engage in routine observations and assessments with the support of colleagues.
  • Attend training days, college sessions and complete all coursework on time.
  • Supporting Curriculum & Play
  • Support delivery of planned learning activities and contribute to play-based learning opportunities.
  • Help prepare, set up and tidy learning environments, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Interact positively with children and follow their interests under supervision.
  • Support children’s communication, early literacy and emotional development.
  • Child Welfare & Safety
  • Learn and follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns to the DSL immediately.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment.
  • Follow guidance around ratios, supervision, toileting and personal care.
  • Understand the importance of routines and behaviour management.
  • Professional Growth & Conduct
  • Take ownership of learning targets and seek guidance where needed.
  • Attend team meetings and training with a respectful and professional attitude.
  • Dress appropriately, be punctual, and communicate openly with colleagues.
  • Respect confidentiality and uphold the nursery’s values and policies at all times.
  • Team Contribution
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues and contribute to team goals.
  • Ask questions and offer help in daily routines (mealtimes, tidy-up, transitions).
  • Build relationships with children by being warm, playful and responsive.
  • Demonstrate curiosity, initiative and a positive attitude toward learning.

Job Type: Apprenticeship
Pay: £11,778.00-£15,600.00 per year
