TERM TIME ONLY

We are looking for a SEN preschool practitioner to play a crucial role in supporting the development and wellbeing of young children who require additional help due to learning difficulties, disabilities, or other special needs. Working within the preschool, SEN practitioner collaborate with teachers, parents and multidisciplinary teams to create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive. This role requires patience, empathy, creativity, strong communication skills and a deep understanding of early years childhood development and SEN best practices.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Individualised Support: Provide on to one support or small group support tailored to each child’s unique needs, abilities, and interests, ensuring they have equitable access to learning and play opportunities.
Curriculum Adaptation: Assist with planning and adapting classroom activities, lessons and resources in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, making modifications to suit children’s learning styles and SEN requirements.
communication: use a range of communication methods (such as makaton, PECS, visual timetables) to support children with speech, language and communication difficulties.
Behaviour Support: implement positive behaviour strategies and support children in managing emotions, social interactions, and transitions throughout the day.
Personal care: assist children with personal care routines as needed, including feeding, toileting, dressing and mobility while promoting independence and dignity.
Observation and Assessment: Monitor and record children’s progress, noting observations and contributing to the development of individual supported provisions plan and one page passports and Education, Health and Care Plans(EHCPs).
Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, SEN coordinators(SENCOs), therapists and external professionals to implement recommendations and ensure coordinated support for each child.
Family Engagement: Build positive relationships with parents and carers, sharing updates and progress and strategies nd providing guidance and reassurance as needed.
Inclusion and Safeguarding: Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote the inclusion of children with SEN in all aspects of preschool life, ensuring their safety and emotional wellbeing.
Resource Preparation: Create, adapt and organise sensory materials, visual aids and learning resources to engage children and meet diverse needs.
Qualifications and Experience
Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education, Childcare or equivalent.
Additional training or certification in SEN is highly desirable.
Experience working with the children with special educational needs, ideally in an early years or preschool.
First Aid certification is an advantage
