POSITION SUMMARY

Operate one or several types of power construction equipment, such as scraper, motor graders, trackhoes, backhoes, skidsteers, excavators, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth, or move pipe. May maintain equipment in addition to other duties. Experience required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to commute/relocate: Colorado: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience: 3 years related experience
Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass a background investigation and drug screening

OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (hard hat, eye & ear protection, safety vest, gloves, dust mask or respirator, fall protection gear, etc.).

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
  • Adjust handwheels and depress pedals to control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, or swing booms.
  • Start engines, move throttles, switches, or levers, or depress pedals to operate machines, such as bulldozers, trench excavators, road graders, or backhoes.
  • Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work.
  • Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines, ground, or position equipment, following hand signals of other workers.
  • Load and move dirt, rocks, or other materials, using graders, or related equipment.
  • Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, rocks, or to distribute and level earth or terrain.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
  • Operate tractors or bulldozers to perform such tasks as clearing land, mixing sludge, trimming backfills, or building roadways or parking lots.
  • Repair and maintain equipment, make emergency adjustments or assist with major repairs as necessary.
  • Check fuel supplies at sites to ensure adequate availability.
  • Connect hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkages, or power takeoff shafts to tractors.
  • Operate loaders to pull out stumps, rip asphalt or concrete, rough-grade properties, or perform general cleanup.
  • Keep records of material or equipment usage or problems encountered.
  • Operate equipment to demolish or remove debris or to remove snow from streets, roads, or parking lots.
