FIXED-TERM: 9 MONTHS FROM SEPTEMBER 2025

The School of Engineering, Business School and Edinburgh Climate Change Institute are looking for a postgraduate student to contribute to a project to develop a carbon accounting tool to measure and analyse the emissions from anthropogenic fire incidents in Scotland. This 9-month project will focus on developing and validating the carbon accounting tool, which we hope will inform future strategic interventions to mitigate the environmental damage caused by these fires.

YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Current University of Edinburgh postgraduate student in the ‘25/’26 academic year.
  • An interest in fire safety, environmental science or business analytics.
  • An interest in and willingness to learn about carbon accounting methodologies.
  • Some experience with data manipulation and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate complex information clearly, both in writing and in oral presentations.Ability to work proactively with colleagues with a variety of expertise; understanding and valuing different points of view.
