Description:
Position: Early Childhood Educator (with IT)Location: Happy Learner Daycare Centre, 3478 Trumpeter St, Colwood, BC, V9C 0R5
Rate of Pay: $29 to 32 per hour
Hours of Work: 40 hours/week, plus bank hours for holidays.
- Benefits: Paid breaks, 5 sick days, and 4% holiday pay.
- Bonuses: Annual bonuses based on years of service (e.g., $100 for the 1st year, $200 for the 2nd year, etc.).

Position Summary
This role involves providing high-quality care to children aged 6 months to 3 years in a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. The Early Childhood Educator (with IT certification) will plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s growth in intellectual, physical, and emotional domains while fostering a play-based learning environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver a safe, healthy, and enjoyable full-day program for preschool-aged children.
- Plan, implement, and supervise a curriculum that supports intellectual, physical, and emotional development.
- Promote creativity through arts, crafts, dramatic play, music appreciation, science exploration, wellness, and physical literacy, including outdoor play.
- Assist children with daily routines such as toileting, dressing, eating, and sleeping.
- Provide respectful, inclusive, and supportive care, including first aid and individual care plans for children with additional needs.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of daycare policies and guidelines.
- Assess children’s abilities, interests, and needs, and provide regular updates to parents through various communication methods.
- Maintain toys, equipment, and supplies in compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
- Complete required documentation to meet Community Care Facilities Branch licensing standards.
- Collaborate as part of a diverse team and provide guidance to Early Childhood Educator Assistants.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, and standards of the daycare center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of VIHA licensing standards.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment in fostering appropriate behavior and creating a positive, safe environment.
- Skill in managing a program budget and planning time effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Creative, enthusiastic, and capable of engaging children in play-based learning.
Qualifications
- Early Childhood Educator Certificate with Infant Toddler (IT) specialization.
- Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience.
Certifications
- Current BC Early Childhood Educator License to Practice.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- Acceptable criminal record check. The candidate must report any criminal charges that may arise during employment.

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
