Our client, a leading civil engineering contractor, is seeking a dedicated and pragmatic Ecological Clerk of Works to join their dynamic environmental team. You will be the on-the-ground guardian of biodiversity, ensuring all construction activities on major projects comply with ecological legislation, planning consents, and protected species licences.Working closely with site managers, engineers, and contractors, you will provide expert advice and deliver pragmatic solutions to ecological constraints. You will ensure legal compliance and environmental protection, all while enabling project work to proceed efficiently and without unnecessary delay.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong data analysis skills to interpret research findings effectively.
  • Previous laboratory experience is an advantage, particularly in a scientific research setting.
  • Mechanical knowledge to assist with technical tasks related to equipment.
  • Experience in horticulture or related fields is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing individual responsibilities.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Environmental Monitoring: Conduct regular site-based auditing and monitoring of all construction activities.
  • Mitigation Implementation: Supervise the implementation of ecological mitigation measures, such as habitat creation.
  • Expert Guidance: Act as the primary point of contact for all on-site ecological matters, providing timely advice and toolbox talks to construction teams.
  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to environmental legislation, Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), and other project-specific documents.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of site activity for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Work effectively with project managers, regulators, and other stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform general clerical duties, including data entry, filing, and record-keeping.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation related to scientific research.
  • Support laboratory operations by maintaining accurate records of experiments and results.
  • Collaborate with team members on horticultural projects, providing administrative support as needed.
  • Apply mechanical knowledge to assist with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
