JOB SUMMARY

The Economic Development Officer (EDO) is responsible for the strategic development, management, and execution of the Band’s economic initiatives to drive sustainable impacts through a collaborative community-driven approach. Working under the Director of Administration (DOA), the EDO will play a vital role in shaping economic development processes, driving long-term goals, and ensuring that these goals align with the communities’ values. The position collaborates closely with internal departments, such the Lands Department and the Territorial Stewardship Department, to maximize land-based revenue opportunities while ensuring responsible and sustainable resource management.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO QUALIFIED ABORIGINAL APPLICANTS AS PER SECTION 41 OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS CODE.

Education : Bachelor’s degree

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the current Economic Development Plan is accessible to OKIB members and updated as needed
  • Collaborate with the DOA to develop and implement economic development strategies that align with the Band’s vision, goals, and land use policies
  • Coordinate with the Lands and Territorial Stewardship Departments to align economic initiatives with sustainability goals
  • Lead initiatives involving land leasing, resource management, and other business development ventures to generate sustainable revenue
  • Identify and secure funding through grants, government programs, and other financial opportunities to support economic development initiatives
  • Build and maintain positive, non-political relationships with government agencies, industry partners, and community members to advance economic goals
  • Provide regular progress reports to the DOA and updates to Chief and Council, on the project status, financial performance, and future opportunities
  • Present and report on economic development activities at Council and membership meetings as requested
  • Communicate key opportunities and developments to OKIB members and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and engagement
  • Ensure all initiatives comply with OKIB policies, the Indian Act, and other relevant legislation, including and environmental regulations
  • Monitor project performance, adjust strategies as required, and provide timely feedback to the DOA and Council to ensure long-term effectiveness.
  • Fosters a respectful, safe and healthy work environment
  • Participates in community events as requested
  • All employees of OKIB may be required to assist in the delivery of emergency services. Duties during emergencies may differ from regular responsibilities
  • Performs duties in accordance with OKIB policies and procedures
