JOB PURPOSE: To analyse domestic and global economic performance and policies in order to prepare the relevant forecasts used in the strategy setting process, business plan reviews and what if scenarios. The Economist will focus on potential market opportunities and economic risks for the bank. Description 1. Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of economic indicators for countries where the bank operates and other global economies to serve economic research and forecasting purposes. 2. Analyse and monitor macroeconomic data and fiscal/ monetary policies, while identifying the correlation degree between economic factors, main drivers for growth and potential sources of shocks on a domestic, regional and global level and produce a periodic research report/ presentation deck for the Senior Economist’s review. 3. Update the automated statistical economic models and do the regression analysis to generate regular updated forecasts for the main macro indicators for countries under coverage, as well as, validating the in-house forecasts with the other forecasts produced by international institutions. 4. Assist the Senior Economist on developing in-house economic indices and preparing relevant material to monitor market movements, as well as, test the market conditions under different scenarios. 5. Conduct economic research on emerging global monetary/ fiscal policies and regulations, as well as, microeconomic research and analysis to provide needed insights for the business. Qualifications & Experience  Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree in Economics or its equivalent;  Minimum of 3 – 5 year of work experience at a financial institution/ economic research company/ research centre for economic studies/ global economic development organisation;  Solid understanding of Macro/Micro economics;  Excellent knowledge of the principles, procedures, and tools of data management; maintains data sources used to develop economic statistics based on best practices for collecting data and validating data. Skills  Excellent command of English and Arabic. A third language is a plus.  Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills  Self-motivated and goal-driven.  Attentive to details.  Excellent soft skills, including: communication, presentation, writing and research skills  Good command of statistical softwares (Eviews is preferred);  Strong command of Microsoft Office.  Knowledgeable about government and law.  Can perform very well under pressure;  Ability to multi-task
