Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This strategic role, reporting to the Economics Lead, is crucial to identify, assess and enhance value opportunities across the Integrated Gas (IG) portfolio and provide key information and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders.
The Economist is a key interface between the IG Integrated Planning (IP) team and the rest of the business. You will be an expert in economic modelling and associated IP processes and have a deep understanding of the how production, cost and macro-economic factors impact the business. This role will focus on delivering value insights through preparation of investment economics associated with the APLNG business, including supporting delivery of operated and non-operated developments and new commercial, exploration and investment /divestment opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and build financial valuation models
  • Work with customers to frame the opportunity, risks, and uncertainties to be evaluated
  • Consistently deliver timely, unbiased, high-quality insights to influence decision making
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate valuation insights to decision makers
  • Actively engage across the business to foster cross functional relationships to proactively pursue sources of data and insight and ensure the progress and quality of analysis is maintained in line with the expectations
  • Adopt a learning mindset and take personal responsibility for continuous performance improvement, including mentoring of other team members.
  • Embrace agile ways of working and demonstrate ownership, pride and accountability for all deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with the Economics Lead, Economics team, and Integrated Planning team to align on work planning, iterate on solutions and find workarounds as needed

You will role model Origin’s values, be self-driven, with ability to be proactive and take initiative. A team player with ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of people across levels, building positive, productive working relationships.

  • A deep understanding of macroeconomic drivers of upstream oil & gas in Australia and globally.
  • Formal tertiary qualification in finance / economics / engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Proficient with MS Excel and capability in building financial models
  • Strong interpersonal skills with enthusiasm to proactively connect with stakeholders across the business
  • Confidence in multi-tasking and delivering to stringent deadlines with a relentless drive for simplification and improvement through organised and structured ways of working
  • PlanningSpace systems knowledge an advantage but not strictly require
