SUPPORT STAFF TEMPORARY ROSTER

CBE Human Resources manages a roster of contingent casual on-call workers who are engaged to temporarily replace staff absences and to work on short-term assignments. Work assignments may be scheduled in advance or the morning of the job. Casual roster staff enjoys the flexibility of working in schools and departments full-time or part-time with a minimum commitment of two days per week. If you are looking to work casually or if you would like to gain experience to move into a continuous position, the Support Staff Temporary Roster maybe the opportunity you are looking for.
We are looking for reliable, self-motivated people to join our temporary roster team as on-call Education Assistants in the education and support of students with a variety of special needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary certificate or recognized vocational certificate in childcare/development or behaviour management with demonstrated successful practicum experience working with students with diverse needs.
  • The completion of at least one full year (ten courses) of course work towards an undergraduate degree in education is also acceptable.
  • Other equivalent combinations of directly related education and directly related experience may also be considered.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Successful experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Proficiency in ASL, preferably in a learning environment.

NOTE: This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds combined with the ability to push, pull, walk, stand and sit frequently. The successful candidate may be subject to challenging behaviors of students.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Teacher:

Individualized Program Planning:

  • Provides input into planning the student’s Individual Program Plan (IPP).
  • Participates in periodic meetings with students, parents/guardians, and learning team members to review goals and develop revisions.
  • Maintains an effective professional working relationship within the student’s learning team by providing suggestions and insights based on experience and knowledge of the students.

Personal Care and Safety:

  • Provides personal care including toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc., while ensuring student dignity is maintained.
  • Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, including maintaining close supervision, calming, or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviors, and assisting with life skills tools.
  • Retrieves students who attempt to leave their learning environment.

Relationship Building:

  • Maintains collegial relationships with the student’s learning team.
  • Works with students in a variety of settings in the school and community.
  • Assists with sanitizing educational tools and cleanup in the classroom.
