Description PURPOSE STATEMENT A staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional RN who directs and/or provides nursing care, within the Emergency Department (ED), for patients with chronic, acute and/or terminal illnesses. The RN will be responsible for triaging patients to determine priority of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow thru the department. Communicates with ED provider regarding changes in patient’s status, symptoms and result of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Participation includes interdisciplinary team, committees, education and the supervision of other staff/students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Demonstrate appropriate assessment and knowledge of critically ill patients. Assist providers with procedures such as but not limited to: conscious sedation, central lines, rapid sequence intubation etc. Implement patient care according to planned interventions to attain the patient’s optimal level of function and documents according to policy. Provide positive customer service relations. Routinely participates in Quality Improvement projects and encourages department to continuously improve. Assist co-workers as needed/requested. Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform other essential duties as assigned. SHIFT REQUIREMENTS Dayshift 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing. Currently licensed to practice as a professional registered nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri or be eligible to practice as a graduate nurse in the State of Missouri. Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. 1 year experience of working in the Emergency Room or comparable experience preferred. This individual should be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of life: neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatric. Current BLS required. Current ACLS or obtain within 6 months. Current TNCC or obtain within 12 months. Current PALS or obtain within 6 months. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 12 hours a day. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition. Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 35 lbs. Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
Responsibilities
The RN provides nursing care in the Emergency Department for patients with various illnesses, triaging patients based on their needs and communicating with providers about changes in patient status. Responsibilities also include assisting with procedures, participating in quality improvement projects, and supporting the medical center's mission.
