Overview Emergency Department Technician- Evening Shift FTE: 0.6 FTE (Part-time, 24 hours per week)Shift: 4:00pm - 12:30am every other Fri/Sat/Sun and Holiday; hours during the week may vary The Emergency Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of basic, non-invasive clinical and clerical support in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and physicians. Plays an important role in patient care by assisting with vital signs, transport, patient hygiene, equipment setup, and environmental cleanliness to ensure a safe and efficient care environment. Functions in day-to-day and emergency situations in accordance with nursing standards and as assigned by the nurse. Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services. Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization. Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, and other related activities. Obtains electrocardiograms per physician orders. Assists RN to establish EKG telemetry, noninvasive blood pressure and oximetry, and temperature readings. Performs clerical duties as assigned. Documents ADL’s within the online medical record. Performs Glucose Point of Care. Qualifications Education: Seventy-five (75) Hour Nursing Assistant Course or nursing students to have completed Nursing Foundations preferred but not required. Skills/Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships and adapt to change. Ability to organize work. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment. BCLS completion required. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients. Member of the Support stroke team requiring 2 hours of annual stroke education.
