Job Summary * Cost Accounting Type: Variable Direct * Exempt: No * Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary to care for the personal needs and comfort of patients as a member of the health care team, under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Standards of Behavior Line of Responsibility and Authority * LINE OF AUTHORITY: ED Technician - Director of Emergency Department Professionalism and Self-Development Education and Qualifications * EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or GED required * EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Six months experience in patient care in an acute hospital preferred * LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: BLS Certification following American Heart Association guidelines required (no other cards accepted) * LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Current Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT I certification required * QUALIFICATIONS: 12 Lead EKG competency * QUALIFICATIONS: Basic knowledge of medical terminology required Physical Requirements/Work Environment/Use of Senses and Communications Skills * ACCOMMODATIONS: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee typically encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will occasionally pull, lift, transfer, or push a patient side to side, to a sitting position, to a standing position, or laterally. The employee must demonstrate a pull lift of 50 pounds from the floor. * POTENTIAL EXPOSURE TO BLOOD & BODY FLUIDS: Category 1 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids. (Requires the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve an inherent potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them. Protective measures should be used while engaged in Category 1 tasks with exposure potential.) Job Roles ED Technician (AHCL) * Applies simple dressings. * Assists registered nurse and physician with procedures. * Coordinates the desk for phone calls, order entry, charge adjustments, transfers of patients, ordering of supplies, stocking supplies, adjusting charges on back log, and other duties as assigned either verbally or in writing. * Knows basic life-support and assists with CPR as needed. * Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies. * Monitors and documents vital signs. * Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
