Position Summary PIT Adelaide This position requires a patient centric mindset with a focus on patient safety, operating efficiencies and effectiveness and works closely with Calvary Nursing and Doctor teams. The purpose of this role is to: • Improve patient flow and reduce wait times • Improve clinical outcomes and patient experience • Optimise resource utilisation and ED efficiency by streamlining the triage process with better utilisation of resources leading to reduced overcrowding • Foster collaboration and clinical governance by encouraging teamwork and adherence to best practices About Calvary Adelaide Care 24-7 (operators of the Calvary Adelaide ED) strives to provide the highest quality 24/7 Emergency Care in Australia with a continual focus on excellence and prides itself on providing health care services to our local communities in a caring environment within high standard Emergency Centres. The Calvary Adelaide Emergency Department opened in 2020 and is the largest private ED in South Australia, with 23 patient bays. It is a tier 2 hospital emergency department. The ED operates 24/7, features cutting-edge medical technology throughout, and offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and rehabilitation services, 24/7 access to radiology including x-ray and CT scans, direct access and referral to on-call Specialist support, comprehensive cardiac and chest pain services (including on-site Angiography) and Level III Intensive Care and Coronary Care Units. Significant Relationships Primary – ED Doctors, ED Nursing team, Clinical Manager, Medical Imaging/ Pathology, Nursing team Internal – Medical Director External – SAAS, Patients & their families Special Conditions Candidates must be entitled to the endorsement under section 98 of the National Law and hold qualifications relevant to the endorsement: • An approved qualification; and • hold current registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA Key Responsibilities Clinical • Conducting comprehensive health assessments, including physical examinations, medical histories and diagnostic tests based on a pre approved set of clinical protocols (refer to attachment A). • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery and outcomes. Leadership • Demonstrating a commitment to professional development by staying current with best practices, guidelines, and advancements in primary care and nurse practitioner practice. • Providing leadership in maintaining the highest standards of customer/ patient-oriented service • Working closely with Care 24-7 leadership and management, ED doctors and Calvary staff to maintain excellent levels of communication and pro actively deal with all patient issues • Escalating and mediating patient throughput issues with ED practitioners i.e bed access, bed availability • Participate in any Hospital procedures and accreditation processes as reasonably requested by Calvary • Participate in any Patient survey forms and similar feedback questionnaires reasonably required by Calvary Personal Specification • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a focus on organisation, and enhanced multitasking abilities • Ability to empathise and show compassion to patients and their family members • Ability to work with multiple demands, work well under pressure, work with initiative, flexibility and creativity, and work as a member of a team • Ability to effectively liaise with core stakeholders including doctors, staff, suppliers and patients CLINICAL PROTOCOLS Abdominal Pain/Back Pain/GI bleeding Blood Tests: FBC, EUC, LFTs, CRP, Lipase, bhcg (if child bearing age), Troponin, VBG (if upper abdomen/epigastric pain) +- blood cultures if sepsis suspected, COAGs if on anticoagulant or GI bleeding, G+H if GI bleeding Urinalysis: including bhcg if child bearing age Consider Imaging (discuss with treating physician if required): e.g. Abdominal ultrasound or CT scan Simple analgesia or antiemetic ± IVF ECG 2. Chest Pain/Palpitation Blood Tests: FBC, EUC, LFTs, CRP, Troponin, BNP, Lipase, VBG (if lower chest/upper abdomen/epigastric pain). D-dimer if age 50 and above, or just take a blue top and keep in folder for treating physician to decide later, COAGs if on anticoagulants, +- blood cultures if sepsis suspected Chest X-ray Simple analgesia or antiemetic 3. Shortness of Breath/Respiratory symptoms Blood Tests: FBC, EUC, LFTs, CRP, Troponin, BNP. D-dimer if age 50 and above, or just take a blue top and keep in folder for treating physician to decide later, VBG especially for COPD/asthma, COAGs if on anticoagulant RAT +- Rapid PCR/respiratory viral panel if appears unwell needing admission Chest X-ray Simple analgesia or antiemetic ± IVF ECG 4. Generally Unwell/Lethargy/Collapse/Falls Blood Tests: FBC, EUC, LFTs, CRP, VBG +- blood cultures if sepsis suspected, COAGs if on anticoagulant Urinalysis: including bhcg if child bearing age RAT if febrile Chest X-ray Simple analgesia or antiemetic ± IVF ECG Postural BP 5. Headache/Neurological symptoms/CVA Blood Tests: FBC, EUC, LFTs, CRP, COAGs if on anticoagulant Consider CT brain (discuss with treating physician) Simple analgesia or antiemetic ± IVF 6. Urinary Symptoms Urinalysis: including bhcg if child bearing age Blood Tests: FBC, EUC, LFTs, CRP, COAGs if on anticoagulant, G+H if frank haematuria Simple analgesia or antiemetic ± IVF 7. Injuries (including any haemorrhage, open wounds, fractures, sprains/strains, etc) Imaging: X-rays, consider CT scan for complex injuries (discuss with treating physician) Blood Tests if multitrauma: FBC, EUC, LFTs, COAGs, G+H Wound Care: Haemostasis, tetanus prophylaxis, washout, suturing after d/w doctors (TD) Simple analgesia or antiemetic ± Prothrombinex if sever bleeding. 8.
