Bloomsbury Academic is seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide editorial and administrative support to a commissioning editor who acquires in Music & Sound Studies. Reporting to the commissioning editor, the Editorial Assistant will assist with administrative and editorial tasks in order to publish scholarly books in Music & Sound Studies. The Editorial Assistant will support the commissioning editor to achieve agreed revenue and profitability targets for their list; will manage and deliver the agreed targets for the list; and will liaise with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
The list features a wide variety of authors and product types, from books for practitioners and textbooks to general interest and trade titles. Particular areas of focus include popular music, music industry, and applied music. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career in academic publishing.

Responsibilities
  • Editorial:
  • Secure reviewers for Music & Sound Studies proposals and manuscripts
  • Solicit book blurbs
  • Write and prepare cover copy for titles as assigned
  • Occasional copyedit and proofread as needed, in Word and/or Adobe PDF
  • Ensure manuscript and image files are formatted to proper specifications (basic knowledge of music notation is a plus)
  • Ensure timely briefing of books to production
  • Administrative:
  • Perform upkeep of electronic data systems and metadata including Biblio, CollectionPoint, Salesforce, and Focal Point
  • Process newly acquired and existing contracts
  • Actively digitizes incoming contracts, contributor agreements, invoices, and other necessary project documentation
  • Process invoices, advance payments, and grants for reviewers, authors, and other vendors
  • Submit cataloguing information (CIP) and copyright registration to the Library of Congress
  • Miscellaneous:
  • Provides research assistance and reports on sales information
  • Provide research assistance on course markets, content, and competition as directed
  • Liaise internally with departments including production, design, marketing, sales, digital resources, customer service, eBook operations, warehouse distribution, accounting, and royalties
