You will experience an international work environment with lean management. The Peter Lang headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, are the central hub for management and administration. The rest of our team is based in continental Europe, Anglo-American regions, and Asia with offices in Berlin, Brussels, Chennai, New York, and Oxford, and supporting locations in Istanbul, Madrid, Vienna and Warsaw.
 We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented
Editorial Production Manager
to supervise our pre-production and guarantee a smooth production. This key position is essential in overseeing the early production preparation and pre-production process and assuring, through strong coordination, a smooth integration of our publishing projects into production.
You will work closely with colleagues in various departments, and should have a proactive, critical-thinking approach to managing your work and your team. Training and support will be given, but strong experience in a similar role is a prerequisite.
Key Responsibilities

Pre-Production team management and workflow coordination

  • Pre-Production Team Management
  • Workflow coordination with the Publishing and Production team
  • Development of initiatives for process improvement, automations and standardisations
  • Project progress management & reporting

Copy Editing Team supervision

  • Supervision of the Copy-Editing team who is handling all Copy Editing, Content Structuring and Indexing request

Manuscript and content analysis management

  • Overseeing, supporting and coordinating the manuscript and content analysis (manuscript and content completeness, metadata completeness, editorial style information check, typesetting complexity level definition, production workflow definition)

Production Preparation management

  • Overseeing, supporting and coordinating the production preparation (segregation of chapters, preparation of production instructions, project scheduling)

Pre-Production Management

  • Supervising and coordinating the cover production
  • Supervising and coordinating the artwork preparation (images and figures)
  • Supervising and coordinating the technical editing and content structuring

Support digital transformation

  • Support content first workflow
  • Support digitization of in-house production

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor degree, preferably in Arts
  • Strong production knowledge (skilled in Adobe InDesign)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in editorial production management with management experience
  • Strong understanding of academic book publishing standards, including indexing, citation management, and copyediting best practices.
  • Proficiency in English and German; French and Spanish a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise effectively with authors, freelancers, and internal teams
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality: Demonstrated meticulousness in managing production details and maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office 365°.
