Job Description
The Editorial Specialist is responsible for shaping Indigo’s brand voice and customer storytelling across all channels. As part of a two-person editorial pod reporting to the Senior Director, Brand Marketing, this role curates and crafts editorial content that brings Indigo’s mission to life: inspiring reading for kids and adults and simplifying thoughtful gifting.
This is not just a copywriting role—it is about editorial curation: knowing the right line, whether you wrote it, curated it, or adapted it. You will be responsible for creating and managing high-output, high-impact copy across diverse touchpoints, from email to in-store, ensuring coherence of message while delivering on campaign goals. You will flex across platforms and campaigns, building end-to-end expertise and taking ownership of major storytelling moments.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Functional

  • Develop compelling, effective, and on-brand copy across channels, including product packaging, ecommerce, social, email, in-store signage, campaigns, and gift guides.
  • Curate and unify brand messaging across all editorial moments, ensuring alignment with Indigo’s broader storytelling priorities.
  • Build and manage campaign messaging end-to-end, from brief through execution.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (creative, marketing, merchants, and external vendors) to identify key storytelling opportunities and optimize customer experience.
  • Leverage SEO & AI SEO best practices and customer insights to develop copy that drives discoverability, engagement, and conversion.
  • Use available tools—including emerging AI platforms—responsibly to accelerate ideation, drafting, and refinement of copy, while maintaining strong editorial judgment.
  • Proofread and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and brand alignment.
  • Use insights from channel team reporting on content to continually refine approach
  • Contribute to the editorial calendar and integrate storytelling into omnichannel briefs.
  • Act as an advocate for the customer, placing them at the forefront of messaging decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase output efficiency, and evolve editorial practices.

People

  • Work collaboratively within the editorial pod and cross-functionally, ensuring knowledge-sharing and consistent execution.
  • Embrace and implement feedback promptly, striking a balance between focusing on line-level details and maintaining a broad perspective.
  • Encourage and contribute to open dialogue, diverse perspectives, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Actively share editorial and technical knowledge with peers.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and willingness to pivot across priorities and touchpoints.
  • Help others see the impacts of their efforts and proactively engage other functions to get input
  • Encourage others to freely share their point of view and be open to feedback

Cultural

  • Model Indigo’s beliefs and convey a positive image in everything you do
  • Celebrate diversity of thought and have an open mindset
  • Take an active role in fostering a culture of continual learning, taking risks without the fear of making mistakes
  • Embrace, champion, and influence change through your team and/or the organization
