THE OPPORTUNITY

Reports to the Assistant Director of Operations within the Office of Professional and Workforce Development (OPWD) and serves as the Health and Safety and Solid and Hazardous Waste Program Manager at the University of Florida’s Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations (UF TREEO) Center. Responsible for managing and overseeing instructional delivery of specified courses, securing industry contracts, delivering contract, open enrollment, and online training offerings. Responsible for refreshing and developing new course offerings.

Health and Safety Program Management

  • Responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs to educate individuals and organizations on workplace safety procedures, regulations, and hazard identification across various industries, including construction and general industry.
  • Curriculum Development - Develop and update health and safety training materials based on industry needs and current regulations. Create engaging and effective training materials, incorporating diverse teaching methods.
  • Training Delivery - Conduct engaging and informative health and safety courses, including classroom instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, to effectively communicate safety procedures to students.
  • Performance Evaluation - Assess participant understanding and competency through quizzes, practical assessments, and observation during training sessions.
  • Feedback and Improvement - Gather feedback from trainees and stakeholders to continuously refine training programs and address specific safety concerns.

Solid and Hazardous Waste Program Management

  • Provides direction and oversight to eight contract instructors and content experts to design, develop, and update course manuals, materials, and presentations for in-person and online courses.
  • Creates and manages program budgets, identifies instructors, schedules classes, arranges logistics, and prepares course materials for online, open enrollment, and contract courses.
  • Contacts and engages with current and prospective clients to identify specific training requirements, including topics, instructors, locations, and dates. Prepare and submit program proposals for contract training.
  • Actively monitors student enrollments, completions, and training transcripts for online, open enrollment, and contract courses.
  • Communicates continuing education training requirements to students.
  • Manages program closeouts to include verification of revenue and expenses, invoicing clients, and instructor payments.

Contract and Database Management

  • Schedules course contracts for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Creates and manages program budgets and fliers, identifies instructors, schedules courses, arranges logistics, and prepares course materials.
  • Manages the FDEP Solid Waste Section database for Operators & Spotters. This includes updating student transcripts and course information and recording course completions.
  • Receives course or event submissions from outside providers, reviews course or event submissions for completeness, and forwards the course or event submissions to the FDEP section contact for review monthly. Updates the database when FDEP approves the courses or events. Communicates the FDEP decision to the outside providers.
  • Prepares bi-annual report to FDEP to include total training completions and training by track.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Relevant Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Safety or Health Administration (OSHA) Outreach Trainer for General, Construction, or Disaster Site Worker.
