Position: Education Assistant

The Lower Kootenay Band, near Creston, B.C, is seeking an Education Assistant for the band’s K – 7 school. Yaqan Nukiy School is certified and accredited by both the BC Ministry of Education and the First Nations School Association.
Staff is provided with ongoing professional development and opportunities through the FNSA.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Education Assistant provides academic, social, and behavioral supports to students. This position will be located in grades 5 to 7 classrooms.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Applicants should have a Certified Education Assistant Certificate, or equivalent training or experience.
First Aid Certificate would be an asset. Ability to be flexible to meet the varying academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of students.

• Assists student in the completion of prescribed academic curricular outcomes.
• Assists with maintenance of records related to student progress, including anecdotal reports to parents.
• Assists with implementation of speech and language therapy.
• Prepares teaching materials such as display charts, flash cards and worksheets.
