Description

THE EDUCATION CONSULTANT WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

  • Provide leadership and support to school teams working with at-risk students and students with difficulty codes in an inclusive environment and/or a more specialized setting.
  • Offer support regarding the transition of student files for those with special needs between elementary and secondary school, as well as between secondary school and adult education or integration into society.
  • Maintain relationships with schools that are not under the school board’s jurisdiction but with which the board has established partnerships for the placement of students with special needs.
  • Support schools in the implementation of special education procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of intervention plans.
  • Work closely with elementary and secondary schools to adapt evaluation procedures and communication of results to the special education context.
  • Ensure that school board stakeholders are aware of the obligations outlined in the law aimed at preventing and combating bullying and violence in schools (Bill 56) and support school teams in complying with these obligations.
  • Help schools implement preventive measures to defuse conflicts.
  • Assist staff in reporting incidents following conflicts or acts of violence and in developing safety measures and other strategies to prevent recurrence.
  • Support school teams in responding to Tier 1, 2 and 3 situations.
  • Promote the development and establishment of professional learning communities.
  • Act as a resource person to ensure the availability of support services for those needing assistance in understanding special education principles and teaching students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with the school board’s administrative center staff and professionals in schools to provide support for at-risk students and students with difficulty codes.
  • Stay informed about research, changes, and innovations in the field of special education, educational programs and methods, complementary activities, textbooks and other teaching materials, and the assessment of academic performance for students with special needs.
  • Work with other educational consultants to establish an interdisciplinary approach that supports educational policies addressing the specific needs of students in special education.
  • Develop, in collaboration with teaching teams, authentic assessment tools tailored to the needs of students with special needs, in alignment with the Quebec school curriculum.
  • Support specific dossiers as requested by the immediate supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty, notably education
  • A mastery of the English language and the ability to function effectively in French;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience;
  • Relevant experience working with vulnerable students in an inclusive or more specialized environment.
  • Experience in social work
  • Experience working in a special education setting in an elementary and/or secondary school;
  • Good knowledge of technology to promote the programs, activities and services offered;
  • Studies in the field of Special Education;
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Training
