This is a newly created and exciting specialty management post, and the post-holder will work collaboratively with the NOUS Ultrasound Modality Lead, Obstetric Modality Lead and Ultrasound Clinical Governance Lead in managing the ultrasound department adhering to Trust protocols and policies, CQC, national screening requirements and NICE guidelines, taking a lead role in education as part of the multi-disciplinary management team. They will also share the responsibility of leading the clinical non-registered staff within the ultrasound departments.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring the delivery of educational programmes, professional development and monitoring and facilitating of mandatory training within our US departments, including:
  • The delivery of the postgraduate training programmes, acting as the main point of contact for our in-house student mentors as well as Universities for the enrolment and progression of trainee sonographers (PgCert/PgDip) in our department.
  • Mandatory training & appraisal compliance of sonographers and clinical staff working within the ultrasound departments (with the exception of radiologists), addressing and arranging time for training and appraisals as appropriate, including that of self.
  • The facilitation and provision of development opportunities/CPD opportunities and sessions/further education for ultrasound department staff.
  • The training of staff in new US techniques and ways of working as appropriate with service development and quality improvement projects, ensuring that patient care experience is central to improvements, with the support of the relevant ultrasound leads to provide an effective high quality, evidence-based service delivery.
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of the Trusts existing trainee sonographer pack and adjusting as required for future trainees
  • Identifying development needs and areas for innovation within the US department, responding to national agenda, ICB and Trust drivers
