JOB DESCRIPTION: EDUCATION MANAGER

The key functions of the Education Manager are to oversee and manage the Education and Youth programs and services within Pacheedaht First Nation. These activities include ensuring that the education system aligns with the cultural values and needs of the Pacheedaht community members; implementing educational policies and initiatives; and managing the budget and resources for all programs.
The Education Manager works toward providing a successful student education experience, and promoting the academic success and well-being of all students within the Pacheedaht First Nation community. This involves regular collaboration efforts with key players such as leadership, resource staff, teachers, parents and School District 62.
The Education Manager works to ensure alignment with relevant Local Education Agreement (LEA) with School District 62, funding agreements, program policy, and procedures that meet the needs of Pacheedaht First Nation. This role also Rrepresents Pacheedaht First Nation on local and provincial committees.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required Knowledge
· Knowledge of the Public Education System, education programs & services and the Local Education Agreement.
· Strong cultural knowledge and practices of the Pacheedaht people[SK1] .
· Knowledge of Pacheedaht culture, history, and educational issues, with a particular emphasis on local history and culture.
· Familiarity with education legislation, policies, and funding mechanisms in BC.
· Knowledge of/experience with department planning, budgeting, and program evaluation.

REQUIRED SKILLS

· Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal, written, listening), with the ability to build relationships and engage with education stakeholders.
· Comprehensive program development, management, and evaluation skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs concurrently.
· Financial management eExperience managing multiple programs, financial management, program development and evaluations.including budgeting and reporting.
· Capable ofto writinge proposals, program policies/procedures and writing reports.
· Culturally respectful and appropriate problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Required Education &/or Experience
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, administration, and/or the equivalent of 5 years’ progressive work related experience – preferably in an Indigenous or rural context.
· Experience leading, supervising, and mentoring staff.
· Lived Indigenous experience or comprehensive work experience in/alongside Indigenous communities is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

Planning & Community Engagement
· Developing and implementing Education/Youth plans and initiatives in consultation with staff, students and community members.
· Building positive relationships and maintaining effective communication with parents/ caregivers, students, teachers, Elders, leadership, and government agencies.
· Establishing programs and policies that align with the cultural values of the Pacheedaht First Nation community.
Ditidaht Cultural Integration and Language Revitalization
· Promoting the Ditidaht integration of cultural values, knowledge, worldview, and language throughout the School District 62 education system and community.
Program (s) Coordination & Support:
· Overseeing all education/youth programs, services for elementary, secondary, post-secondary education and afterschool programs.
· Providing guidance and educational support to students and families for student planning, attendance, school issues and overall student needs for academic success.
· Developing and implementing new programs that align with community planning and/or meet the needs of students and youth programming.
Collaboration
· Collaborating with school principals, teachers, curriculum specialists, and community members to develop culturally relevant and inclusive curriculum materials as needed at all SD62 Schools.
· Communicating on a regular basis regarding student planning, student progress, attendance, and the necessary support for their success. need for support for students that lead to success.
· Collaborating with external partners to enhance educational opportunities, access to resources, and community involvement.
· Supporting and providing direction to Pacheedaht First Nation leadership on Education goals and initiatives.
Financial Management
· Developing and managing the annual education budget to ensure efficient resource allocation.
· Ensuring compliance with applicable funding agreements, and regulations.
· Overseeing and communicating with finance department the education program budgets.
· Ensuring financial reporting is compliant and efficient with funding agencies.
· Identifying any education/youth funding opportunities, writing proposals, and coordinating financial reporting to secure and maintain funding.
Community Relations & Student Engagement
· Building and maintaining strong relationships with Pacheedaht parents, families, and community members to promote student success.
· Developing and maintaining a collaborative relationship with School District 62 administrative staff, teachers and support staff on a consistent basis.
· Implementing strategies to enhance student engagement, attendance, and educational support.
Monitoring
· Analyzing data reports on student achievement, attendance, and other educational indicators to identify areas for attention and improvement.
· Developing strategies for consistent communication and follow up to address education issues with families, counselors and the school district teachers.
