CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under general supervision is responsible for work of above average physical and emotional difficulty in the planning and providing of instruction, guidance, counseling, supervision to clients/students with a wide variety of behavior, learning and emotional problems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with classroom control. Administers assessment testing. Provides classroom coverage in the absence of classroom teacher. Assist special education teachers with progress monitoring. Assist special education teacher with individual student learning or lessons. Assist teachers (copying, making booklets, filing, etc.). Maintain proper norms and security of youth and provide crisis intervention as necessary. Responsible for contributing to a positive and productive work environment. All other duties as assigned. Adheres to Sequel policy and practice concerning creation, editing, transmission, storage, and disposition of all Protected Health Information in compliance with HIPAA. Must be emotionally stable, able to handle above average stress, demonstrate physical fitness, able to physically restrain and assist in carrying a sick or injured adolescent, if needed. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma preferred, GED with training and experience acceptable; experience in a school or social service setting preferred. Must be able to use standard office equipment, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and physically restrain students if necessary. REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 21 years of age. Ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card, or in current possession. Valid Arizona Driver’s License. Must pass a TB test and medical exam capable of performing the essential functions of this job. Individual judgment, discretion, and decision making skills. Ability to work with the general public without difficulties. Ability to interpret laws, regulations and make decisions accordingly. Emotionally and physically able to assist in physical escorts. Must be able to help carry ill, injured, or incapacitated clients. Must be physically able to assist in AWOL searches in any terrain. Confidentiality and professionalism are essential.
