SCHEDULE

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of three (3) days in-office based out of our West Sacramento office and two (2) days working remotely.

SUMMARY

We are seeking an insightful and analytical Education Policy Analyst to join our dynamic team. Under the general direction of the Principal Research Manager, this position conducts in-depth research and provides policy analysis and recommendations on critical education issues affecting California’s students, families and school communities. The role involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, the development of various research-based publications and participation in grant-funded projects. The ideal candidate brings strong research skills, policy expertise and a commitment to advancing educational equity and effectiveness; and performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in education policy, public administration, government, political science or a related field.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in education policy research and analysis, including experience with meeting coordination, facilitation and public presentation.
  • Knowledge of California’s education system, including school board governance, curriculum, finance and legislative processes.
  • Familiarity with federal, state and local government structures as they relate to public education.
  • Strong research methodology skills and experience with survey development and deployment.
  • Ability to interpret and synthesize policy documents and academic research into actionable summaries and reports.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly present findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in developing and editing high-quality written materials for publication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all work.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds, hand truck available to assist.
  • Ability to sit at computer for long periods of time and have the dexterity to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally travel for conferences, trainings, workshops and meetings throughout California, including overnight stays.Limited vacation during peak periods

Responsibilities
  • Policy Research & Publication Development: Conducts thorough research and policy analysis to produce white papers, policy briefs, advisories, manuals and news items that communicate complex issues in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Presentations & Public Engagement: Prepares and delivers presentations on education policy topics at meetings, conferences and webinars.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Supports survey and focus group design, data collection and interpretation of results to inform policy recommendations.
  • Policy Monitoring: Tracks and analyzes education trends, legislation, regulatory changes and emerging practices in TK-12 education.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Works cross-functionally within the Association and with external stakeholders to inform strategic priorities, develop content and support special initiatives.
  • Project Management: Contributes to a variety of complex research projects, including grant-supported work, and reports on progress to the Principal Research Manager.
  • Task Force & Committee Participation: Facilitates and participates in internal working groups and represents the Association on external committees, boards, councils and advisory groups.
  • Event Support & Facilitation: Assists in the planning and facilitation of meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions related to research findings.Organizational Communication: Collaborates with colleagues to provide feedback, maintain high-quality content standards and support the development of multi-media educational tools.
