Description Education Reporter- $46,000+ Annually, Top News Organization, Meaningful Work Future Impacter, Our Education Reporters help inform students and parents in their communities by providing important updates on tax rates, expansions and ballot measures in their local school board and community college districts. By attending school board meetings, connecting with district officials and networking with other community leaders, our Education Reporters disseminate news that is central to the lives of our communities’ residents. NOTE: While our office location is in Jersey Village, this role will cover updates for the Tomball/Magnolia & Conroe/Montgomery markets. ABOUT YOU You should apply to our Education Reporter role if you: Can produce 10 stories per week. Proven ability to develop relationships with sources across beats. Feel comfortable with taking photos to complement your written work. Have experience covering city council meetings/school board meetings. Previously have written for a professional publication or school newspaper. Feel confident researching data and have experience with data visualization. Are eager to interview sources in-person throughout the greater metro area. Are proficient in AP Style and are familiar with content management systems. Are confident in finding and pitching your own story ideas with minimal supervision. Understand the importance of meeting deadlines and managing your own time efficiently. Have availability on weekdays from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, plus evenings/weekends as needed to cover meetings and breaking news.
