Overview:   The Homeschool Education Specialist is a dynamic educator who partners with families to deliver personalized, standards-aligned instruction in a flexible homeschool setting. This role blends instructional leadership, compliance oversight, and community engagement to ensure student success in a creative and supportive environment. Instructional Support & Academic Guidance * Develop individualized learning plans aligned with state standards and student needs * Conduct bi-weekly Learning Period (LP) meetings to review progress and adjust instruction * Provide academic support through virtual synchronous instruction and in-person check-ins * Monitor student mastery and engagement to assign grades and guide pacing * Support parents as primary instructors by modeling effective teaching strategies * Ensure students complete 5 core subjects per semester (TK–5) with regular progress monitoring Compliance Responsibilities * Maintain accurate records: Learning Logs, AWRs, Engagement Logs, Work Samples * Take attendance based on work completion; submit documentation every LP * Upload and label student work samples in SIS for audit readiness * Prepare and participate in IEP meetings and ensure accommodations are met * Proctor state-mandated assessments (SBAC, CAST, ELPAC, Exact Path) * Follow SARB procedures for truancy and maintain communication logs in SIS Family & Community Engagement * Serve as the primary liaison for homeschool families during school hours * Host onboarding meetings and present Welcome Letters with contact info and expectations * Communicate regularly via Remind, email, and Google Meet * Organize and attend homeschool events, field trips (minimum of three), and quarterly in-person meetings * Represent Taylion at two community events annually * Guide families through curriculum, resources, and school policies Collaboration & Professional Development * Attend weekly staff meetings and Friday professional development sessions * Complete required training modules, Quizlets, and compliance videos * Collaborate with counselors, facilitators, and administrators to support student success * Contribute to WASC committees and school improvement initiatives * Maintain internal communication via Gmail and Google Chat Essential Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field * Valid California Teaching Credential with English Learner Authorization * Experience in homeschool or independent study settings preferred * Knowledge of graduation requirements and curriculum planning * Proficient in Google Suite, Zoom, SIS, and online learning platforms (SchoolsPLP, Edmentum) * Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills Additional Requirements * Respond to all communications within 24 business hours * Manage instructional funds and distribute learning materials * Adhere to California Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting laws * Maintain confidentiality and professional discretion * Must travel locally; valid driver’s license and insurance required * DOJ fingerprint clearance and completion of internal training required Core Values Alignment This position exemplifies Taylion Academy’s commitment to: * Closing the achievement gap through personalized education * Fostering a respectful, professional, and accountable team culture * Championing the success of every student through precision, support, and integrity At Taylion Academy, our mission is rooted in purpose and integrity.
