Description SUMMARY: The Education Specialist is primarily responsible for the delivery of innovative instructional programs for Pre-K-12 students using standards-based STEM programming and problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum. The Educator must be able to safely work with and present the Akron Zoo’s animal ambassadors used for onsite and offsite programs ESSENTIAL DUTIES: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES Deliver/present educational interactions and programs to a variety of audiences including students (classroom and field trip groups), zoo visitors, tours, Zoomobile programs, animal encounters, etc. Deliver content, messaging and key talking points for educational opportunities at animal training walls, keeper talks, animal encounters, discovery carts, fact sheets, signage, etc. Collaborate with other departments as needed Safely handle ambassador animals in accordance with established policies and guidelines. Assist in training others on proper methods and techniques. Build and maintain a positive relationship with education animals required for training behaviors and safe handling. Requirements Associates or Bachelor’s degree (or actively working toward) in Education, Biology, Zoology, Communications or related field At least one season (3 months) experience as a seasonal interpreter and/or other related experience teaching, training, and presenting to small and large groups Valid State of Ohio driver’s license
