The Education Support Officer (Academic Calendar Transition) plays a key role in supporting the School of Physics with the academic calendar transition from the existing ‘3+’ academic calendar model to a ‘flex-semester’ calendar, due to be implemented by 2028. This transition will also include a comprehensive revision of the undergraduate teaching curriculum to align with the expectations of the Australian Institute of Physics accreditation program. Working within the School and liaising closely with key stakeholders, including the Science Education Team (SET), this role will prioritise calendar-related deliverables while contributing to ongoing academic quality activities to ensure integration and continuity. The role will support and advise on curriculum and timetable changes while liaising with academic and professional staff to ensure alignment between the School, Faculty and Central initiatives. This may include providing support across the school’s academic quality activities, including: academic governance and proposals (ECLIPS), data and reporting, and other projects within the school relating to academic calendar transition activities. The position requires strong stakeholder engagement, adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the role * $103K - $110K plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading * Fixed Term – 2 years * Full-time (35 hours per week) The role reports to the School Manager and has no direct reports. Specific responsibilities for this role include: * Coordinate school-level activities for the academic calendar transition and curriculum transformation, including developing project timelines, monitoring progress against key milestones, ensuring governance compliance, chairing or coordinating school project committees, and overseeing risk identification and mitigation strategies. * Oversee documentation related to curriculum changes, assessment schedules, and teaching delivery. * Liaise with academic staff to ensure timely submission of course materials and compliance with university policies. * Collaborate with the Faculty’s Project Manager and Academic Lead to ensure consistency and alignment across schools and access key information for dissemination to school staff. * Coordinate approval and governance processes for school education by advising on timelines, compliance requirements, prerequisites, and alignment with institutional standards. * Liaise with SET staff to support submission of school ECLIPS proposals and supporting material for review by the Science Teaching and Quality Committee (STAQC). * Identify local training and resource development needs for escalation to faculty and central leadership. * Compile and summarise course, program, and student data to support decision-making, reporting, and project monitoring. * Maintain accuracy, consistency, and quality of academic records and related systems to ensure reliable information for students and staff. * Support academic quality assurance activities, including program reviews, annual monitoring, and other faculty- and university-level review processes. * Contribute to school projects and initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve processes and streamline operations in relation to education support and advising on relevant policies and procedures. * Build collaborative relationships across the school and faculty to support communication, change management, and continuous improvement. * Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay current with UNSW policies and systems, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team. * Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values. * Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others. About the successful applicant (Selection Criteria) To be successful in this role you will have: * Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience * Experience in tertiary education sector preferably with experience in academic quality, student services, student systems, or teaching support. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands. * Excellent time management and organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative. * Proven problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify gaps, understand problems, and develop solutions and suggest improvements. * Experience in a range of computing skills including Power BI, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases and a willingness to learn new systems. * An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines. * Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
