JOB SUMMARY

The Education Support Services Coordinator reports to the Director of Education, Culture & Language, overseeing ATC Education Committee’s initiatives related to curriculum development, policy creation, and support for the Post Secondary & Upgrading Student Support Program and Boarding Home Program. The role involves working with internal and external partners to enhance First Nation education.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree in Education or related field is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in community service, especially with elders, adults, and families.
  • Knowledge of First Nation education systems and best practices in Alberta.
  • Lived experience in Indigenous communities and ability to provide culturally sensitive services.
  • Understanding of First Nation schools in Alberta.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Cree or Dene language/culture is an asset.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Class 5 Drivers License with a clear Drivers abstract.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (may be completed upon hiring).
  • Availability for after-hours/on-call response if needed.

Responsibilities
  • Support First Nations with Delegated Agreements for Post Secondary Student Support Program reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures for Post Secondary and Boarding Home programs.
  • Upload student data into the Education Information System (Indigenous Services Canada) and create action plans for students.
  • Verify documentation for students and Boarding Home parents; conduct home assessments as required.
  • Provide case management support for students, collaborating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular contact with students to monitor progress and address issues.
  • Develop and deliver programming for students and families.
  • Promote additional post-secondary funding opportunities (loans, bursaries, scholarships).
  • Recommend improvements to policies and procedures for student support programs.
  • Maintain accurate records (both electronic and hard copies).
  • Support the strategic initiatives of the ATC Education Committee.
  • Use social media to communicate with students, families, and institutions.
