JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Educational Advocate/Consultant to provide guidance and support to families of children with disabilities and learning differences. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education law in Texas, experience in public education and a passion for supporting families. This role involves analyzing educational plans (504 and IEPs), attending meetings (virtually and/or in person) and collaborating with families and schools.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with families to understand their specific needs and concerns regarding their child’s education and special education services.
  • Provide guidance and support during the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and/or 504 plan meeting, ensuring that families understand their rights and options.
  • Assist families in preparing for meetings by helping them gather necessary documentation and formulate questions and goals.
  • Advocate for appropriate educational accommodations, modifications, and services to be included in the IEP/504.
  • Identify and connect families with relevant resources, services, and support networks within the community.
  • Stay informed about local, state, and federal special education laws and policies to effectively guide families.
  • Mediate disputes between families and educational institutions when disagreements arise regarding a child’s educational services or placement.
  • Facilitate open communication between parents, teachers, and school administrators to promote collaborative problem-solving.
  • Provide educational materials and resources to empower families in advocating for their child’s needs.
  • Help families track their child’s progress and ensure that IEP goals are being met, advocating for adjustments when necessary.
  • Follow up with families and schools to assess the effectiveness of interventions and supports.
  • Maintain accurate records of advocacy efforts, communications, and relevant documentation to support families in their advocacy journey.
  • Prepare reports and summaries as needed for case management.
