Description:

Hours of Work : Call-in basis, Monday-Friday from September to June
Rate of Pay: Daily Rate: $23.28 per hour + vacation pay
Long-term Assignment Rate : $25.56 per hour + vacation pay
Permanent Rate: $25.56-$28.26 + pension and benefits
Start Date: As soon as possible

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational Assistant Diploma and/or experience deemed equivalent by the Board
  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field of study (Child Youth Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker)
  • Experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience is considered an asset
  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, and Administration
  • Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position, such as running/walking on uneven ground, lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing Behaviour Management System techniques where required
  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools
  • Availability to accept assignments on a casual basis during the day and with short notice.

Responsibilities:

Educational assistants support students with many diverse needs. This work provides support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student. Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and application of Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) (training provided). Educational assistants support students both individually and/or in a group setting.
Availability to accept assignments on a casual basis during the day and with short notice.
